Elden Ring: Nightreign - Analysis of the New Teaser and the Ironeye Class

Apr-03-2025 PST

We recently had a new teaser for Elden Ring: Nightreign, and no, it wasn't an April Fool's joke, even though it was released on that exact day. Bandai Namco released a short gameplay video revealing a new class: Ironeye. In this article, we'll dissect the details of this teaser, the new class's abilities, and other new features we can expect from this content.

The New Class: Ironeye

In the beta, we already had access to three playable classes, and now we have confirmation of one more, adding to the total of six or eight classes (still without official confirmation). Ironeye focuses on the use of bow and arrow, introducing new mechanics that can redefine the use of this weapon within the game.

Skills and Mechanics

1. Bow Dash Attack: The character runs, slides, and fires three arrows consecutively. It can be an ideal skill for quick attacks against groups of enemies. 2. Vertical Mobility: The character can climb walls and attack from above. This can be useful for repositioning, dodging, or strategically striking enemies.

3. Arrow Slash: Similar to an anime sword slash, this ability allows the player to deal slashing damage with the arrow in their hand, piercing through enemies. It can have additional effects such as weakening or applying status.

4. Aim Mode: The bow can be used both with locked aim (for more dynamic gameplay) and in free mode (allowing for greater accuracy). The implementation of this mechanic is crucial to determining how viable this class will be in close and long range combat.

5. Backstab with Bow: For the first time in a FromSoftware game, we have a backstab animation using a bow. This addition can make archers more versatile, allowing for stealth plays.

6. Ultimate - Gale Arrow: The arrow slashes in the direction of the target and creates a wave of wind that hits all enemies in the area. An ability that is ideal for group combat, but can be avoided by faster enemies.

The introduction of these abilities indicates that FromSoftware is trying to make archers more viable, something that has always been a challenge in Soulslike games.

New Enemies? Or Just Recycling?

Despite the excitement for the new class, the community has noticed that Nightreign is recycling many enemies from the base game. Several excerpts from the teaser show creatures that we have previously faced in Elden Ring.

Confirmed enemies include:

Farum Azula's Beast: A recycled opponent from the Farum Azula map.

Viking Knight (Kennel Sword): Similar to the Limgrave warriors.

Melee Mage: Featured in the teaser, a mage with melee attacks.

Tibia Mariner: A secondary boss from the base game that uses summons to attack.

The lack of completely new enemies raises questions about the originality of the DLC. So far, most of the enemies seem to be reused, with few changes.

What to Expect from Nightreign?

If FromSoftware follows its pattern, we'll still have more teasers revealing other classes and possibly new bosses. However, the concern about enemy recycling may dampen fans' enthusiasm a bit.

The big hope is that the Ironeye class will bring a new approach to combat, making bows more relevant in the game. With new mobility mechanics, fast attacks, and specific skills, this could be the first truly viable archer class in a Soulslike game. Become more powerful with the help of ample Elden Ring Runes and Elden Ring Items.

Final Thoughts

The Elden Ring: Nightreign teaser introduced an interesting new class, but it also reinforced concerns about content reuse. We'll just have to wait for more information from Bandai Namco and see if the DLC will bring enough challenges and new features to keep the community engaged.

Now, we want to know: are you excited to play Nightreign?
